Could Have Been Me, Mom

Tonight I put my arms around my son and let him vent.  He kept naming all of the African-American men in his life dear to him, family and beyond.  He kept saying, “that could have been …” even naming himself.  Then he took his arms around me and released.  I held him tight …  I have 4 African-American sons … the struggle is real

My son is confident yet fearful and as a teenager trying to find who he is and where he belongs. I’m doing my best! The hard part is when they are fully aware it is not just them on TV … but us
